Pacific Black Duck

Anas superciliosa

This is our commonest duck; they can be seen in large numbers when there is sufficient water in the lake. Black Ducks breed around the lake, and the adult females can be seen escorting newly hatched ducklings to the water from often distant nest sites. Some even make the hazardous journey from south of Stirling Highway! The normal clutch size is 10-12 but very high predation rates result in few of the vulnerable ducklings surviving to adulthood

  • Length: 48-60 cm
  • Clutch Size: 10-12
