White-faced Heron

Egretta novaehollandiae

This elegant, long-legged bird is often seen foraging around the lake. It walks slowly and waits motionlessly for long periods before striking at it’s prey; a wide range of vertebrates and invertebrates. It has been seen attempting to swallow a small turtle.
They nest in tall trees; look for a shallow, untidy collection of sticks.
