Dusky Moorhen

Gallinula tenebrosa

Similar in size and colouration to the Eurasian Coot, except that the Moorhen has white under its tail and a yellow-tipped orange bill. This bird is closely related to the European Moorhen. In Western Australia it is confined to the south west.
More shy than the coot, it is less likely to be seen in open water, especially when caring for its young. It nests in the reed beds.
