Australian Ringneck

Barnardius zonarius

This beautiful bird was once declared vermin in certain areas because of its liking for wheat and orchard fruit. They are now protected and commonly seen and heard around the lake.
Ringnecks breed in tree hollows and are probably suffering competition from the introduced Rainbow Lorikeet.
