Splendid Fairy-wren

Malurus splendens
This little bird is much loved for the beautiful plumage of the males but the female is also a pretty creature. They move in extended family groups, foraging in dense bush or sometimes on the ground, for their insect food.
The males will defend their territory against intruders; in the photo below one had been attacking his “rival”, reflected in the car’s side mirror.
