Job Summary Are you looking for an opportunity with the potential for professional growth and development? Consider joining the City of San Bernardino Municipal Water Department as a Welder II. The City of San Bernardino Municipal Water Department is seeking a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment performing skilled welding and pipefitting work in a variety of water system construction and maintenance activities and lead a small work crew.
The Welder II is the advanced journey/lead level class in the welding pipefitting series.
The ideal candidate will have graduated from high school, or the equivalent, 5 years of journey level welding experience with journey level knowledge of water distribution and transmission pipelines, a State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 certificate, and a valid California Class "C" driver's license. The incumbent will also obtain and maintain an AWS 6G pipe welding certificate within six (6) months after appointment.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from high school or GED/equivalent,

Experience: Five (5) years of journey level welding experience with journey level knowledge of water distribution and transmission pipelines,

Certificate: Must have and maintain a valid California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 certificate at the time of application. Must submit a copy of the required certificate with application. Must obtain and maintain an AWS 6G pipe welding certificate within six (6) months after appointment.
Obtaining and maintaining required certification is a condition of employment. Failure to obtain and maintain any required certifications noted within the stipulated timeframes shall be considered grounds for termination. The responsibility for obtaining and maintaining certifications is the sole responsibility of the employee.
Necessary Special Requirements Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license required upon application. Note: For out-of-state applicants, a valid driver's license is required and a valid California Class "C" driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Must be clean shaven or trimmed facial hair in order to properly use personal respirators. Must pass a respirator medical exam and be physically able to wear respirator equipment. Must be able to work in enclosed spaces while wearing protective clothing under extreme temperatures and hazardous environment.
Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions Work involves exposure to potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease including smoke, fumes, gas, treated water, high frequency noise, dirt, dust, grease, oil, chemicals, solvents and toxic agents. Incumbents need to be able to tolerate unpleasant odors, wet conditions, and uncomfortable climatic conditions. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, crawl, climb, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in a field setting in varying weather conditions, to operate hand tools and mechanical and motorized equipment, to transport materials and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds, and to travel to various locations. Must be able to see in the normal visual range with or without correction with vision sufficient to see color and read small print as well as distance. Must be able to hear in the normalaudio range with or without correction. Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Retirement for Current Members - For employees hired after 1/1/2013 who are current (Classic) members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12 and have not been separated from service from such agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be
2% @ 55 ; highest single year of compensation.
Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who are not a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be
2% @ 62 ; 3 year final compensation. New members will be obligated to pay 50% of the "normal cost" of their retirement benefits as required by State law.
