Position Summary
The Meat Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the meat department at Pomegranate Market. This includes weekly purchasing of local and nationally sourced meat products through our vendors, inventory management, merchandising, and ensuring product quality and food safety. The Manager ensures department operations align with Pomegranate’s values of providing natural, organic, sustainable, and locally sourced meats whenever possible, while achieving financial goals and providing excellent customer service.
Ensure consistent availability of fresh, high-quality meat products.
Work with vendors and local suppliers to source natural and organic meat options.
Maintain clean and visually appealing displays.
Monitor case temperatures and storage conditions for food safety compliance.
Place special orders and assist customers with product requests.
Model outstanding customer service and lead by example.
Create a welcoming, knowledgeable environment for customers.
Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and care.
Provide education to customers and staff on cooking methods, cuts of meat, and sourcing practices.
Meet department sales, margin, and labor goals.
Monitor shrink and adjust practices to minimize waste.
Manage purchase orders, vendor relationships, and product pricing.
Participate in monthly inventory counts and ensure accurate records.
Create attractive meat case displays that highlight seasonality and promotions.
Coordinate with the Marketing Team on featured items, sales, and sampling.
Stay informed about customer preferences, industry trends, and new product opportunities.
Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health code regulations.
Maintain a safe work environment and report maintenance concerns promptly.
Uphold Pomegranate’s standards for organic, sustainable, and humane meat sourcing and handling.
2+ years of experience in a retail, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role. Grocery experience preferred.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Familiarity with organic, natural, and sustainable meat sourcing preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold, fast-paced environments.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
