Cardiovascular First Assist (CVFA) – Operating Room

Location: Sunrise Hospital, 3186 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV
Department: Operating Room – Main Building, 1st Floor
Schedule: Full-Time | 4x10s Shifts | Call Requirements Based on Vein Harvesting Skills

 

Position Summary

Sunrise Hospital is seeking an experienced and confident Cardiovascular First Assist (CVFA) to join our Operating Room team , specifically supporting our Open Heart and Vascular surgical services . This position plays a critical role in assisting surgeons during complex cardiac procedures, with endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) being a mandatory requirement for all candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as First Assist in a wide variety of cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries , including:
  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting)
  • Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
  • Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
  • Aortic dissections
  • Pericardial windows
  • Pediatric congenital cardiac procedures
• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) independently.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate intraoperative data collection and documentation.
• Participate in on-call rotation – schedule determined based on vein harvesting competency.
• Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and patient safety protocols.
  Unit Overview: Operating Room
• 23 Operating Rooms total, with 4 dedicated CVOR suites
• 125+ surgical staff , including RNs, CSTs, and support staff
• Advanced surgical equipment and technologies
• Floating may be required to Main OR as needed

Qualifications
Must-Have Experience:

Minimum 2 to 3 years of recent CVFA experience in Open Heart surgery
Demonstrated experience in on-pump cardiac surgical cases
Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) expertise is required
Experience in vascular procedures (Fem-pop, AAA, AV fistulas)

Certifications:

CST-FA (Certified Surgical Technologist – First Assist) OR
RNFA (Registered Nurse – First Assist) – Active license required
Preferred Qualifications
Pediatric CV surgery experience
Strong vascular background beyond basic requirements

Shift & Call Details
Schedule: 4x10-hour shifts
Call: Varies based on vein harvesting skills – higher call involvement for EVH-capable staff
