Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
To operate over-the-road tractor trailer to deliver freighted goods to customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates semi-truck with trailer, according to state laws. Transports load over required route to proper destination, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
2. Obtain shipping bills of lading and necessary signatures and returns completed paper work to shipping office. Maintains any related records required.
3. Performs miscellaneous service duties such as checking, on a daily basis, oil, water, gasoline, and air in tires. Reports any maintenance malfunctions to Shipping Supervisor.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May use hand truck to rearrange loads in shipping department area.
2. May sweep out truck body on off-shifts
3. May switch empty/full trailers in shipping yard on off-shifts for optimum loading patterns on the following day.
4. Operate tri axle dump truck.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid state Chauffeur's license (Grade III).
• Tact and diplomacy required in dealing with customer personnel at delivery points.
• Requires high degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of tractor trailer and in preventing damage to materials and trailer equipment.
Clean and Current CDL License Class A
Minimum 5 years’ experience driving semi – trucks.
• Frequently sitting in trailer cab for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift and move 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
• Must meet Department of Transportation physical and medical requirements and pass substance abuse screening; as a safety sensitive employee subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy.
