Description:
This position is for a full-time Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department.
Education required includes a high school diploma or GED.
Preferred education includes post-secondary education in a related field, including coursework in Medical Terminology.
Licenses and certifications required include current BLS certification, which will be provided during the first week of hire, and CPI certification within 30 days of hire.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year of acute care experience in a hospital setting, and computer literacy is required.
Preferred experience includes phlebotomy, EKG, and familiarity with Medical Terminology.
The role involves performing patient care activities and clerical functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities include supporting the clinical operations of the Emergency Department, providing technical assistance, and participating in unit and organizational improvement activities.
Key functions include performing phlebotomy, EKGs, patient transport, hygiene care, vital signs, weights, and assisting with procedures.
Additional duties include inputting orders accurately in the medical system, maintaining departmental filing systems, and managing communication within the department.
The technician will monitor and report changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff.
Safe patient handling and mobility practices will be followed, along with adherence to infection prevention protocols.
The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in prioritizing multiple patients and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members will ensure efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
Accurate documentation of patient care and observations in the medical record according to established policies is essential.
The technician will maintain equipment by cleaning, testing, and reporting malfunctions promptly.
