Description
SUMMARY We seek a passionate, experienced Upper School and Middle School dance instructor to join our Fine Arts Department. This position involves designing dance/movement curriculums, directing the Greenhill Dance Company, and choreographing musicals. Other theater-related duties are possible. Evening and weekend commitments are required.
This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required .
RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop and implement a comprehensive dance curriculum for Middle and Upper School students, incorporating various styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and cultural dances and fostering a love for dance while promoting physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
- Plan and lead engaging dance classes that cater to students' diverse skill levels and interests.
- Produce a full-length spring dance concert with students participating in a diverse program representing different dance styles and cultures.
- Choreograph annual Upper and Middle School musicals.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Fine Arts and other disciplines to integrate dance, musical theatre, and drama into interdisciplinary projects and performances.
- Teach other performance-related classes as needed.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in dance education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as needed.
- Work closely with the Fine Arts faculty team to create a cohesive and supportive environment for our students.
- Contribute to the school's arts community by participating in events and performances celebrating the arts at Greenhill.
Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in dance, theatre, or related field; master's degree preferred.
- Experience or strong interest in teaching dance within an independent school setting.
- Proficiency in dance history, choreography, pedagogy, and various dance styles (ballet, jazz, modern, tap).
- Familiarity with world music and world dance forms, reflecting a global perspective.
- Ability to teach students with diverse learning styles and abilities, demonstrating inclusivity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Competency in educational technology and innovative teaching strategies, including Project Based Learning.
- Commitment to professional growth and flexibility to adapt to changing educational landscapes.
- Physical ability to meet job demands, including movement demonstrations and equipment handling.
- Passion for arts education and belief in the transformative power of the arts in student development.
