Minimum Qualifications
Librarian I Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university, or must be earned within six (6) months of employment.
Licenses and Certifications Required: Physical Requirements: - Must be able to stoop, bend, walk, and reach heights of six (6) feet.
- Must be able to lift or pull book bags and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to push loaded book cart/truck up to three hundred (300) pounds.
- Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard.
Librarian II Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university, plus two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian.
Licenses or Certifications: - Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to stoop, bend, walk, and reach heights of six (6) feet.
- Must be able to lift or pull book bags and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to push loaded book cart/truck up to three hundred (300) pounds.
- Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard.
- May be required to work in close/cramped quarters.
For Bookmobile positions: - Must be able to drive the vehicle (i.e., use of hand and foot controls, etc.) for several hours a day.
- Work may entail some exposure to outdoor temperature and weather conditions.

ABOUT THE JOB : This position will be working with the team of professionals at the Central Library providing exceptional customer service and world-class programs with and for teens ages 13-18. This team serves our community by creating and hosting clubs and workshops for teens, mentoring teens in leadership opportunities, welcoming special guest presenters, running field trips for large numbers of students, information desk assistance, reader's advisory, and more. Our team values open communication, trust, peer support and mentoring, and helping each other support the young people we serve.
The Teen Librarian will have a variety of duties including: - Answer book-and-research-related questions at a public service desk for approximately 15-20 hours per week.
- Manage the Teen Graphic Novel collection and our Teen Nonfiction collection, including reviewing for subject and series gaps, weeding, requesting replacements, displays, booklists, and shifting.
- Design, develop, host, and evaluate programs with and for teens aged 13-18.
- Work with teen volunteers and youth staff on developing engaging programs for teens.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS : This position requires a valid
Texas Class C driver's license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the
City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
MILITARY VETERANS : - If you are identified as a top candidate you will need to provide a copy of your DD-214 before confirming a start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include: - Experience serving teens aged 13-18.
- Experience using best practices to serve and deliver programming that resonates with teenagers aged 13-18.
- Knowledge and passion for teen literature, including YA Fiction, Graphic Novels, and Manga.
- Ability and comfort speaking to and working with large and small crowds.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledgeable of current children's chapters and picture books.
