POSITION: Full-time Faculty Position in Applied Statistics (Assistant Professor, Continuing Track)

The Department of Applied Economics and Statistics at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a full-time Continuing Track Assistant Professor position in Applied Statistics, starting in Fall 2026.

Continuing Track (CT) is the University’s permanent, non-tenure career path, offering a stable and rewarding academic trajectory. CT faculty hold the same academic titles as tenure-line faculty and benefit from multi-year contracts, sabbatical eligibility, a parallel promotion process, and participation in shared governance.

This 9-month academic appointment has approximately 90% time allocation to teaching and 10% to service, including student advising.

The new hire is expected to contribute primarily to our Master of Science (MS) Applied Statistics online program.

Minimum Qualifications:

●        Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a closely related field.

●        Demonstrated excellence in teaching statistics, with effectiveness in engaging students, clearly communicating complex concepts, and supporting student learning.

●        Demonstrated experience in statistical research and applications.

●        Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supporting learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

●        Experience in curriculum development

●        Substantial applied experience in statistical analysis in research, industry, or  professional settings.

●        Experience in online or hybrid teaching modalities.

●        Evidence of successful student mentoring and engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching (90%):

  • Teach 7 courses (equivalent to 21 credits) per academic year. The primary teaching responsibilities will support the MS Applied Statistics online program. Course assignments will align with both departmental needs and the candidate’s areas of expertise and interest, with potential subjects including, but not limited to:
    • applied multivariate statistics
    • time series analysis
    • logistic regression
    • econometrics (in support of MS Agricultural and Resource Economics) 
      • In addition, the position may offer opportunities to contribute across the department’s full range of academic programs, including undergraduate majors in Statistics and Sports Performance Analytics; MS programs in Statistics (on-campus), Applied Statistics (online), and Agricultural and Resource Economics; as well as the newly established Ph.D. program in Statistics Data Science.
  • Advise online MS students in Applied Statistics, particularly in course selection and monitoring academic progress.

Service (10%):

  • Serve on the MS Applied Statistics Coordination Committee, contributing to the planning, organization, and oversight of the program’s curriculum in collaboration with the Program Director and other faculty affiliated with the statistics programs.
  • As part of the Department of Applied Economics and Statistics, all faculty members are expected to engage in service activities at the departmental, university, and professional levels, and to support the department’s broader mission of promoting statistical literacy across the university community.

Additional Institutional Information: The Department of Applied Economics and Statistics is an interdisciplinary academic unit within the University of Delaware’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, located on the University of Delaware South campus. Our department fosters a collegial environment committed to student success, faculty collaboration, and real-world impact. We support inclusiveness and innovative teaching across all levels of instruction. Currently, the Department consists of 21 full-time faculty who teach and supervise approximately 90 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students.

The University of Delaware is in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York and Washington D.C, and 1 hour from Philadelphia and Baltimore.  An Amtrak station is located within walking distance of the University’s South campus.

Salary:

University of Delaware salaries and fringe benefit packages are highly competitive. Salary is commensurate with experience.
