Australian Kestrel<\/h5>\n

Length 30-35 cm.<\/p>\n

The Australian (Nankeen) Kestrel (Falco Cenchroides) is a beautiful raptor that is commonly found in Australia. They are easily seen in the summer when the lake dries out. Kestrels are skilful fliers that can hover for long periods, as well as hang above the ground when the wind is strong. Look for them on tall tree stumps where they rest between hunting forays and eating their prey. Mice are a favourite food. The bird shown in the pictures is female. Males have a grey crown and nape.<\/p>\n
